Liverpool captain out for at least four weeks

Liverpool have confirmed captain Steven Gerrard will be out of action for at least four weeks, reports talkSPORT.

Gerrard came off in Liverpool's 4-1 victory over West Ham this past weekend and will now not play for the club again this year.

The Reds skipper will miss some crucial games for the Merseyside outfit over the festive period as Brendan Rodgers' side take on the likes of Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea in the coming weeks.

When discussing the injury to Suarez, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers told the club's official site: "Steven is, as reported, probably going to be up to about four weeks or so.

"So he'll go through an extensive treatment programme over the next numbers of weeks and hopefully we can get him back that little bit sooner.

"But certainly at this stage, it was a four to six-week injury and we'll see how we look with that."

Without Gerrard, Liverpool will be desperate to continue their fine start to the Premier League season.

However, Liverpool will be boosted by the news that Gerrard's midfield teammate, Jordan Henderson has been training without any issues after also picking up a knock against the Hammers last weekend.

Rodgers' side currently sit in second place in the table, just five points behind leaders Arsenal and the Reds will be hoping to pick up a positive result at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
