Three suspects arrested in connection with the gang rape and murder of two teenage cousins who were found hanging from a tree have confessed, according to police.
Authorities were still searching for two more people following the deaths of the 14 and 15-year-old girls in Uttar Pradesh state, India.
The detained men, who are cousins in their 20s, could be put to death.
This is the tree where the girls were found hanging (Picture: AP)
The investigation into the murders has led to the arrest of two police officers and firing of two others after claims authorities failed to deal with the incident properly. One of the fathers of the dead girls, Sohan Lal, refused 500,000 rupees (£5,000) offered by the state government as financial help.
‘I don’t expect justice from the state government as state police officers shielded the suspects,’ he said.

DISAPPOINTED!!! Beyonce Declined Kim's Request To Be Her Bridesmaid
Kim Kardashian asked Beyoncé to be a bridesmaid to which the singer immediately refused, Star magazine reports.
The bride-to-be had been going around, bragging about how much Beyoncé wanted to be in her wedding, sources tell Star.
However she is said to be embarrassed when the reigning queen of pop turned her down. The voicemail was very unexpected considering the fact that Beyoncé does not even respond to Kim's calls.
Though Queen Bey tries to be cordial with Kim and her family, "she still finds her family unbearable," the source added.
Their men, hip hop power houses, Jay Z and Kanye West are known bffs, but it doesn't seem as though the same will happen for their leading ladies.
If you remember back in 2012, Beyoncé gave Kim the same treatment at the BET Awards and she does not seem to be letting up.
The Drunk in Love singer has made a conscious effort to be as uncontroversial and private as possible, while Kim has shared each and every detail of her, often chaotic life with the public on her TV show.
Beyoncé feels the Kardashians are "too controversial," the source continues, and that of course does not fare well with her.
However, HollywoodLife.com spoke exclusively to Kim's rep who confirmed, there was no truth to any of the report. "She hasn't gotten that far [into planning] to ask anyone!" the rep said.

FOOTBALL: Jose Mourinho admits he wants to stay at Chelsea for life
Jose Mourinho has announced that he wants to stay at Chelsea until he retires from football.
The Portuguese manager is enjoying his second stint in charge at Stamford Bridge and does not envisage leaving to take control of another club.
Mourinho is dedicated to winning trophies for the Blues and owner Roman Abramovich and is happy to live in London as it suits his family.
‘I’m not here thinking about my next move because I don’t want to have a next move,’ the former Porto, Inter Milan and Real Madrid coach told the Evening Standard. ‘I will have a next move if and when Chelsea decides it’s time for that.
‘I’m not chasing new experiences, trying to find where I like it more, where I can make new things for my career – no. It’s a completely different perspective.
‘I’m here to stay. I belong to Chelsea, Chelsea belong to me. I gave a lot to Chelsea in the past but they also gave a lot to me. This is a different professional relationship.’

BIZARRE:Woman tries to sue lawyers because they failed to tell her a divorce settlement would end her marriage
A British woman tried to sue her former lawyers because they failed to tell her the divorce settlement she wanted would cause the end of her marriage.
Jane Mulcahy attempted to take action against two law firms that she had used, saying they did not make it clear what the outcomes of her divorce proceedings would be.
It is believed Ms Mulcahy is Catholic and that her lawyers had not taken her faith into account, the Independent reported.
She claims that judicial separation, which is less severe than divorce, should have been recommended instead.
The details of the attempted legal action were revealed at an appeal court hearing after Ms Mulcahy objected to the outcome of her original case.
Lord Justice Briggs, who presided over the appeal proceedings, said that Ms Mulcahy’s claim was a ‘striking’ one and her case was rejected by the court.

REVEALED: The True Reason Why D’Banj Cancelled This Year’s Koko Concert
Contrary to D’Banj’s claim on Twitter that he had to cancel this year’s Koko Concert because of the Madiba Legacy Concert organized by EbonyTV, an amebo artiste manager in a chat
with NigerianTribune, described D’banj’s reason as a lie.
According to the unnamed manager, who NigerianTribune says his artiste is one of the hottest acts right now:
D’Banj had admitted to my artiste that he was having problems getting a sponsor and would not hold the concert if his attempts at getting one fails. He spent a lot of money in bringing Idris Elba and others to the
country last year and does not want to do so alone this year. So, when I read on Twitter that he said he was cancelling the concert to honour Mandela, I just laughed at the PR-driven lie.

Britney Spears -- I LOVE SEX, But ...
Britney Spears admits ... she ain't exactly the sexual dynamo she used to be back in her "I'm a Slave for U" days ... but the 32-year-old says she still LOVES to get down. Spears confessed her love of coitus during an interview for her documentary, "I Am Britney Jean" .... saying, "I love sex. I think sex is great ... but I feel a little different about it now that I’m older. Sometimes I feel like I’m 20 and then sometimes I feel like I’m 50."It's an interesting comment, considering Britney has been very outspoken about wanting to tone down her sexuality. She recently said she was being pushed too far sexually in her music videos and in the "Britney Jean" doc, she implied her most sexually charged concert performances are behind her. Still, Britney insists she's all about bangin' ... so, congrats David Lucado.
WOW!!! Mother’s dying wishes granted at Christmas, two years after her death
| Brenda Schmitz’s dying Christmas wish was granted two years after she died |
Brenda Schmitz, a wife and mother of four boys, died from ovarian cancer in September 2011. A month before she passed away, she wrote a letter addressed to her local radio station, which runs an annual Christmas wishes programme.
Brenda, 46, asked a friend to only post the letter to the Iowa radio station, Star 102.5, once her widowed husband, David, had fallen in love again.
| David listens to his late wife's letter |
This year the station brought David in to the studio and surprised him on air by saying they had received a letter from his late wife.
‘When you are in receipt of this letter, I will have already lost my battle to ovarian cancer,’ Brenda said in the heartfelt note.
‘I told [my friend] once my loving husband David had moved on in his life and had met someone to share his life with again, to mail this letter to all of you at the station.’
Brenda’s ‘Christmas wish’ from the station, of which few are granted every year, was for David’s new love to be pampered.
‘She deserves it, being a stepmother to all those boys. Maker her smile and know her efforts are truly appreciated from me,’ the letter read.
She also requested for a ‘magical trip’ for all the family as well as a night out for cancer doctors at Mercy Medical Hospital where she was treated.
All three of Brenda’s wishes where granted by the station and local sponsors, who sent the family of eight, including two children of David’s partner Jane, to Disney World.

Manchester United boss heaps praise on Januzaj
David Moyes was full of praise for Adnan Januzaj after the youngster scored a sublime goal in Manchester United's 3-1 over West Ham at Old Trafford today.
The 18-year-old doubled the Red Devils' lead after Danny Welbeck had opened the scoring against the Hammers.
That was the young winger's 3rd goal of the campaign following his stunning brace against Sunderland back in October.
Ashley Young sealed the points for Manchester United, before substitute Carlton Cole grabbed a late consolation goal for the visitors.
Januzaj's performance was one of the high-points in United's routine victory that moves them up to 7th in the Premier League.
Moyes said he was happy with the youngster's efforts today - but added he is pushing his young charge to be even better.
"Adnan Januzaj is doing really well," said the Manchester United boss after the game.
"We are always hard on him, we always want more but he is doing remarkably well. He can score goals, he is a real talent.
"We would like to be doing much better, we want to be right at the top but we will continue to keep going."
Januzaj blotted his copy book against West Ham when he was booked for a blatant dive.
Despite that Moyes had plenty to smile about after watching his Manchester United side win their third game in a row - however he wants to see them charge up the league over the festive period.
"We played well today," he said. "I'm a wee bit disappointed we didn't take some more opportunities and I was disappointed not to keep a clean sheet but we got done on the break.
"The job is to keep our head down and keep winning games. There is confidence among the players, we are creating a lot of opportunities right now. Danny Welbeck has a sore knee.

What not to say in a job interview: Tim Sherwood admits to being an Arsenal fan despite wanting Tottenham job
Tim Sherwood may have talked himself out of contention to fill the managerial vacancy at Tottenham after admitting to being a fan of Spurs’ bitter rivals Arsenal.
In the ultimate job interview fail, footage has emerged of the former Spurs midfielder speaking on daytime TV show Sport and Leisure and although this was prior to Andre Villas-Boas’ sacking, Sherwood will surely be regretting his words now.
‘I’d love to see them [Arsenal] do well, I grew up an Arsenal fan as a kid,’ he said.
‘My dad still goes to the Emirates every week.’
His p45 may already be in the post.

Fernando Torres' goalkeeper dreams ended after shattering teeth
Chelsea forward Fernando Torres was on course to become a goalkeeper in his younger days - until he broke his teeth trying to make a save which prompted his mother to intervene.
Torres completed a £50 million British record transfer to Stamford Bridge back in 2011, but it could have been very different had he not come undone in an unfortunate incident between the posts.
“I start playing as a goalkeeper, until I break my teeth doing a save,” Torres told Sky Sports News. “And my mother said ‘you want to play football, no more as a goalkeeper.’”
Since joining Chelsea, Torres is yet to truly capture the form which saw him set the Premier League alight with Liverpool.
It's often said that the Chelsea star is burned by his enormous fee, but he says that paying big money for a forward is just par for the course.
“At the time the price is right. It’s like, if you want to sigh Gareth Bale now, you have to pay £100 million," he said.
"Maybe you pay one more year, and maybe you pay £60 million or £150 million. Who knows? At the time the price is right. What Chelsea paid, it’s never been something I think about.”
Chelsea are currently in third in the Premier League, and will have the chance to overtake league leaders Arsenal when they go head to head on Monday.
Torres has scored five goals this season, and only two in the Premier League.

WOW!!! Drinking Helps You Beat A Cold
Experiencing chronic sneezing, an irritated throat, and a pounding headache? Well alcohol may actually solve – and not aggravate – your problem, a study has found.
Moderate consumption of booze has long been thought to reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes, but researchers at Oregon Health and Science University have now also found a link with the immune system and the fight against infection.
Scientists made four per cent ethanol alcohol available and attractive to 12 rhesus macaque monkeys – which they say have an immune system similar to humans.
The ‘drinking’ monkeys were compared with a control group which had only sugar water and after a 14-month period the ones consuming alcohol had naturally divided themselves into ‘heavy’ and ‘moderate’ drinkers.
Prior to the study starting, the monkeys were vaccinated against small pox with a second vaccination seven months in.
While the heavy drinkers displayed a greatly reduced response to the second vaccine, it was the moderate drinkers that came out on top – even ahead of those consuming sugar water.
Moderate drinking appeared to have improved the monkeys’ immune systems, the researchers claim, in the study which was published in journal Vaccine.
‘If you have a family history of alcohol abuse, or are at risk, or have been an abuser in the past, we are not recommending you go out and drink to improve your immune system,’ said Ilhem Messaoudi, lead author of the paper.
‘But for the average person who has, say, a glass of wine with dinner, it does seem in general to improve health and cardiovascular function. And now we can add the immune system to that list.’
Moderate drinking is considered to comprise of one and six units of alcohol per day. Three units is a 175ml glass of wine or a pint and a half of four per cent beer.

Tom Cruise Settles $50 Million Libel Lawsuit Over 'Abandoned' Suri
The war is over ... Tom Cruise has settled his epic $50 million libel suit against a magazine publisher that accused him of abandoning his daughter Suri ... and part of the settlement included a carefully-worded apology. The terms of the settlement are sealed. Each side will pay its own legal fees. Part of the deal was that the defendants issue the following statement: "Bauer Publishing, 'In Touch' and 'Life and Style' never intended to communicate that Tom Cruise had cut off all ties and abandoned his daughter Suri and regret if anyone drew that inference from anything they published."As we reported ... Cruise sued Bauer Media Group last year over a cover story that appeared in Life & Style magazine claiming he had "abandoned" his then-6-year-old daughter Suri in the wake of his divorce from Katie Holmes. The conflict was pretty insane -- you'll recall, Tom sat for a deposition in the lawsuit and compared acting to fighting in Afghanistan.Regardless, it's all water under the bridge now.

Ferguson's book continues to cause controversy
Sir Alex Ferguson's book has called a lot of controversy since its release with insults aimed left and right at all kinds of people in the footballing world, prompting some to hit back at the former Manchester United boss.
One such player was Owen Hargreves, who Ferguson claimed didn't have "nearly enough determination" and "always chose the easier option" in training.
Hargreaves has responded by telling the Independent: "Anyone who knows me will know that professionalism is one of my strongest traits. I always give my best. A lot of people who have rang me this week were very surprised by what he said, myself included.
“I think he said a lot of things in there that were with emotion. He was very disappointed obviously with the way things turned out.”
Another player to get picked on by Ferguson was former England captain David Beckham. The former Manchester United boss has said that he sold the midfielder to Real Madrid because he was too obsessed with fame and that he "thought he was bigger than Alex Ferguson" which is a death sentence seeing as Fergie seems to have a rule about having to be the most important person in any situation.
Beckham responded to the jibes by taking the high road: "I wouldn't be negative about Sir Alex Ferguson because he was the man who gave me the chance to live my dream," reported the Telegraph as the former United star answered questions on Facebook.
Quite surprising that Sir Alex Ferguson thought he was bigger than David Beckham.
The player to get the most stick though was Roy Keane who received a savage beating at the hands of the Scotsman, with claims that "he thought he was Peter Pan" and "the hardest part of Roy's body is his tongue".
Keane's response was short and to the point: "People say Ferguson always does what is right for Manchester United. I don’t think he does. I think he does what is right for him," as reported in the Telegraph.
Not every page is full of digs and the most brutal of character assassinations though. In fact some have described the book as a love letter. A letter to someone very special to Ferguson: the ginger maestro Paul Scholes.
There is not a single bad word said about Scholes, and in fact he is described as "the future of Manchester United F.C" among other compliments.
So just like most other things in Fergie's career, this book seems to be a way to boast about himself and his favourites while at the same time putting everyone else down.
A tough task seeing as one fan has already got a refund on the biography by single-handedly pointing out 45 mistakes made by the Scotsman who prides himself on his attention to detail.
