RAPE:Three suspects ‘confess’ to rape and murder of teenage girls found hanging in tree in India

Three suspects arrested in connection with the gang rape and murder of two teenage cousins who were found hanging from a tree have confessed, according to police.

Authorities were still searching for two more people following the deaths of the 14 and 15-year-old girls in Uttar Pradesh state, India.

The detained men, who are cousins in their 20s, could be put to death.

The investigation into the murders has led to the arrest of two police officers and firing of two others after claims authorities failed to deal with the incident properly. One of the fathers of the dead girls, Sohan Lal, refused 500,000 rupees (£5,000) offered by the state government as financial help.

‘I don’t expect justice from the state government as state police officers shielded the suspects,’ he said.
